We have long known that the world’s most extreme motorsport series, the Extrem-E, will soon be launched. But the fact that the six-time F1 world champion is also joining the field was quite a surprise!
The British will help the work of his own team as team principal. The identity of its pilots is not yet known, but the ultimate goal is not a secret: to raise awareness on global climate change. Hamilton has already been a big advocate of the environment and animal welfare, and now he has opened another front by joining the electric off-road series:
“I’ve got into an exciting thing, it’s going to be fun to measure myself as a team leader as well. Together we are strong enough to draw attention and make a difference on the subject, and I am very happy that we are able to use racing for this case. I can’t wait to start all this for real and the new series to begin. I think we will be able to do amazing things.”
The Extrem-E will start in January 2021 and will take place in the harshest landscapes in the world: Senegal, Saudi Arabia, Greenland, Brazil, and Namibia will be the venues. All racing cars will be alike and with electric propulsion, also, they will run on the same tires drawing attention to the encouraging vision of electric driving. Several well-known teams have applied for the field: Andretti, Chip Ganassi, or HWA all sounds great for us. And now the X44 sounds great, too.
