We can hear almost every day some news about Kimi Raikönnen’s possible retirement which – seeing Finnish racer’s performance this season this year – would not be surprising. Rumors are only amplified by the fact that Alfa Romeo has admitted to negotiating with Niko Hülkenberg.
Nico Hülkenberg’s performance in Silverstone, who has returned for the last two weekends, is a very good letter of recommendation and this of course, is not denied by the Swiss-Italian stable either. One of the team’s seats is held by Ferrari, which of course would like to put a Formula 2’s academist racer in the other sea t– so if Hülkenberg is serious about the full season, then he has to push Kimi Raikkönen out.
Frederic Vasseur, Alpha Romeo’s team leader, has not yet expressed his views on the pilot change, and he has advised to be more careful (which is highly suspicious in such cases…): „It’s too early to talk about this. I need to sit down with the shareholders of our team first and we also need to know how Kimi decided. I don’t think it’s a good idea to talk about this right now, and I don’t want to disturb the stable’s mood, it would be the worst thing, if we’d start a debate now.
ico Hülkenberg himself spoke on the matter, but apart from starting negotiations with Alfa before his first (!!) weekend in Silverstone, he didn’t reveal much „Yes, I’ve been negotiating with them since the very first moment I met them. I really want to race again in F1, I love it here, it’s my life and my passion. I wasn’t desperate when I was pushed out to the sidelines, but I’d love to come back..”
