This time fun started earlier on the ring, the superiority of Mercedes was obvious from the beginning. The second free practice held little surprises ready.
It was clear from the beginning that in Monza (As is happens in case of all similar rings) the wind shade and the chaotic ‘braking’ caused by it would be present, since nobody wanted to take the lead and be a windbreak. After the driving started, several laps were cancelled because some of the drivers just left the track. Among these drivers were Daniel Ricciardo, Alexander Albon, and Sebastian Vettel too.

Towards the end of the practice, dynamism was brought by the battle between Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris. At first it seemed that the French racer would be third, but fait favored Norris for this honorable position. Vettel surpassed both of them and stole the show: The German racer lost control over his vehicle and when accelerating from behind he drifted – although nothing happened to the vehicle, Ricciardo arriving with speed from behind almost smashed him.
Charles Leclerc also fought behind the wheels of Ferrari, however he managed to finish without significant problems. The reds were racing home, but they are still in the middle and the 1.5 seconds fallback indicates that the qualifying and the race will be tough…
