The Styrian Grand Prix continued today with the first free practice of the delayed 200 F1 season. In the F1 history the Red Bull Ring was the first location with two subsequent races organized on two subsequent weekends.
The sleepy training’s peculiarities lied in the usage of the third class racers: Alfa Romeo raced with Robert Kubic, while Williams replaced George Russell with the debuting Jack Aitken.
The first significant event is also related to Williams. Nicolas Latifi’s faulty gearbox called for the red flag. Kevin Magnussen from Haas also faced technical problems, but contrary to his colleague he was unable to pull over. In the meantime, the ring was dominated by Mercedes, however they were soon overtaken by the smoothly driving Sergio Perez.
The Racing Point racer remained on top until the end, Max Verstappen closely followed him, after overtaking the two Mercedes racers. The third place was conquered by the pink team’s other driver, Lance Stroll, while the negative surprise was embodied by Ferrari, which landed in the middle.
